Arm Triangle Choke

The arm triangle choke is the same as the triangle choke except it is done with the arms instead of the legs. In the arm triangle, your arms make a triangle and your opponent’s neck and one arm get locked in your triangle hold. The arm triangle choke works like all choke holds to knock your opponent out by preventing blood flow to the brain. Like the rear naked choke, the arm triangle choke is virtually impossible to escape from.

How the arm triangle choke works:
The choke pushes your opponents neck against his own shoulder. Thus, blood flow is constricted to the brain by putting pressure on the carotid arteries. Therefore, your opponent’s shoulder and your arms are what puts pressure on the carotid arteries.

How to do the triangle choke:
1. Get your opponent so they have one exposed arm for the choke.
2. Reach around with your arm that’s opposite to your opponent’s exposed arm and grab the bicep of your other arm.
3. Place your free hand behind your head and press your head against theirs.
4. Finish the choke by flexing your bicep and squeezing.

Things to remember:
This is supposed to be a choke and not a neck crank. Ear to ear is a good thing to rememeber for where to place your head. The goal is to put pressure on your opponent’s carotid arteries and not just turn your opponent’s head. So make sure your opponent’s arm is close against your opponent’s neck and you have your bicep tight against your opponent’s neck.

The arm triangle choke is a choke where it’s important to focus on good position. Don’t squeeze too hard and get tired quickly. Just maintian good position and your opponent will be forced to give in.

Just like all chokes, make sure you’re only performing the arm triangle choke in a controlled setting and you stop choking at the first sign of a tap or your opponent blacking out.
